“No one is ever really
taught by another; each of us has to teach himself.
The external teacher offers only the suggestion, which arouses the
internal teacher,
who helps us to understand this.”

Cedarwood Yoga Studio Teachers
Jennifer Murphy Tonzi teaches Ashtanga Yoga in her Gig Harbor yoga
studio. Jennifer Tonzi attended teacher training at the Ashtanga Yoga
School of Seattle with David and Katherine Garrigues who are certified
to teach by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Some other workshops
attended by Jennifer include: Sri. K. Phattabhi Jois Seattle, Tim
Miller, Aadil Palkhivala, Back Bending with the Ashtanga Yoga School and
Second Series Ashtanga Yoga.
Jennifer Murphy Tonzi blends her knowledge and dedication of
Ashtanga Yoga with a sense of humor needed to practice. She also
volunteers to teach yoga to elementary and jr. high school students as
well as those affected with physical illnesses. She is now a
student of David and Katherine Garrigues in Seattle, WA.
Cindi Wilke
Cindi Willke has attended teacher training courses with David and Catherine
Garrigues at the Ashtanga Yoga School in Seattle and with David Swenson. She
has also attended workshops with Tim Miller, Teresa Elliot, and Aadil
Palkhivala.
Cindi is a student of David and Catherine Garrigues in Seattle, WA, and is
dedicated to learning and teaching traditional Ashtanga Yoga as taught by
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Her excitement for teaching comes from the joy (and
astonishment) of experiencing the transforming effects of Ashtanga Yoga in
her own life. She balances her technical knowledge of the practice with a
healthy dose of lightness and fun in class.
Crystal Stephens
Crystal Stephens - Crystal's deep devotion to the practice and teaching of
Anusara Yoga has made her understanding of this style deep and profound. She
has accumulated many hours of practice and study with the top teachers of
this system. From weekly classes with Certified Teacher Denise Benitez, to
study with the founder of this system John Friend, and many great teachers
in between (Behnje Masson, Mary Romeau, Kathleen Hogan, Desiree Rumbough,
Sianna Sherman, Mitchel Bleier, Jamie and Justin Allison and Betsy Downing)
Mary Larsen
Mary Larsen, CYT, RYT, is a certified yoga teacher in gentle Hatha yoga,
and is registered with Yoga Alliance. A long-time student of Margaux
Gallinger, she has been practicing yoga since 1998. Mary completed her
teacher training with Joseph LePage, founder of Integrative Yoga
Therapy, and has had intensive asana instruction with Jonas Westring.
Her classes are a gentle form of yoga that emphasize flexibility,
strengthening and stress reduction. She combines lightheartedness with
dedication in teaching a practice that promotes personal growth, healing
and awareness.
Hal Meng
Hal Meng - Hal originally came to yoga seeking relief from shoulder and back
injuries. He found it! He is a Certified and Registered Yoga Teacher as well
as being a Licensed Massage Practitioner. His training includes both the
Iyengar and Viniyoga styles of yoga and he continues his training locally
and in India. Hal's focus is the development of classes to enhance health
and make the benefits of yoga available to all, including those living with
injuries, disabilities or life threatening illnesses.
Jim Wright
Jim Wright has studied Yang style Tai Chi Chuan for almost 15 years. His
first instructor was Ron Jorgenson of Enumclaw who studied with Master
William C. C. Chen. Most of Jim s training has been and continues to be with
Blake Emery who teaches in Seattle at the Queen Anne community center and at
the Silk Purse Farm in Enumclaw, Some other workshops attended include:
Weekend retreats at the Silk Purse Farm to study Emerald Dragon Qi Gong &
Push Hands (Tui Shou) with Christopher Luth of Solana Beach, California and
most recently another weekend retreat at Silk Purse where Grand Master Bao
Ren Wang of Hangzhou, China showed us Wudang style Tai Chi and Wudang
medical Qi Gong. This style of tai chi has only recently (1980) been taught
outside Grand Master Wang's family where for generations it was passed from
grandfather to grandson.
Jim's approach to tai chi is that it is a life long learning experience and
approaches each session with a beginners mind so maximum learning can be
achieved. In addition to learning tai chi movement, which ultimately leads
to a group of moves done in a defined sequence called a 'form', we will do
some moving and standing meditation and some qi gong breathing exercises.
Sherry Williams
Sherry practiced yoga in her youth and returned to practice in 1999. She
has a B.A. in Philosophy, an M.A. in Creative Arts Therapy
(Dance/Movement), and worked for a variety of outdoor adventure/travel
programs before moving to the Northwest in 1987. She is an attorney
employed in Tacoma, and a teaching assistant for Lisa Black at Shakti
Vinyasa Yoga in Seattle. Sherry has trained with Kim King Zamoff, Lisa
Black, Aadil Palkhivala (Iyengar), and Baron Baptiste. She has attended
numerous workshops and classes with nationally known teachers.
